Morning Strangers! Get Ready to be Blown Away

Hello Strangers!

Today is the day! It is the day we are ready to change the culture in Singapore. One step at a time, we will be closer to the Singapore we want to see in the near future! Can you believe this day has finally arrived?

For the team, and our newly found ambassadors, this is really a milestone for all of us to be able to run a totally self-initiated, self-run public event at Orchard Road. No CIP hours, no certificate, no beautiful testimonial to boot but we are all spending this Saturday together knitting together the culture we want to see. 🙂

So if you are heading town for a romantic date or going to savour the last bits of the Great Singapore Sale, hop on by our booth at 313 (near Charlie Brown) to say Hello to our team and learn more about us personally. And of course, if you receive a happily coloured balloon, pass it on to a stranger! 🙂 Lets all make new friends today!

Tweet us/ Facebook us, engage us in conversation! Upload photos of you with our balloons! We will be logged on the whole day so do speak to us!

Alright! Time to set up and wait, what! No time for breakfast?

Team Project Hello Stranger

Hello Strangers, Hello Lian He Zao Bao!

We always mention how surprised and amazed we are every time an article appears in the papers. You must be thinking, “did you go for the interview?” At the interview, it is always a simple comfortable chat, very casual, no frills, alot of spills. Little did we know, this is how big the article will be! This Lian He Zao Bao article in the popular section “Popcorn” is almost the entire page of the papers! WOW.

We are very touched by reporters/ journalists who feel for the project and give us a very nice slot in the papers to help us inspire more people. See, Singaporeans are really nice. 🙂 This is definitely an adrenaline pill popped into our mouths. Our hearts are pumping so hard and our minds are going crazy with enthusiasm. Imagine a thousand F1 race cards speeding across our heads. Ya. Exactly.

So lets see how many days are we left with?

Counting down has become as easy as 1, 2, 3,

Team Project Hello Stranger

Hello Strangers! Caught our briefing this weekend?

Be it the Friday evening or the Saturday afternoon briefing we had, we will like to give thanks to you guys who took time out to attend the briefing. You could have been shopping, catching a movie, hanging out with your friends, sleeping at home, or having forever alone time but you made the choice to join us! That choice you made is an absolute affirmation for us and for Singaporeans to know that we are ready for a change. We are ready to meet strangers. We are ready to let go of our stern faces. We are ready to step forward. 🙂

For those who missed the briefing and have emailed us your concerns, we hope you have received an invitation to join us in our make up briefing session some time next week. If you have not gotten it, please email us to let us know. For those who are still keen to join us but unfortunately did not sign up in time, you guys are on our waiting list, if we need any more ambassadors, definitely, we will inform you in a flash. Of course, you can still just drop by Orchard Road on 23 June to soak in the atmosphere!

Back to briefing, we had so so so much fun and laughter. I tell you, a weekend with strangers can sometimes be so much more memorable that it keeps us thinking about it all week. That icebreaker and the way strangers huddle just to “save” each other from “dying” in the game was heart-warming. Okay, honestly, it was extremely hilarious too. Grown people, screaming when the music stops, rushing for newspapers, giggling and giggling and more giggling. Ha. But how often do you get to scream and run around like kids with people you just met at the playground? Almost never these days.

Someone once told me, the best sort of people are those who are willing to laugh at themselves. You people must be from that category of awesome people. 🙂

This week will be non-stop working for the team. Getting all logistics ready. Working out the final draft of our operations plan. Preparing all collaterals. Finalising everything. Closing the chapter of background work, getting hyped up to open up a new window of hope.

Ambassadors of Class of Project Hello Stranger 2012, are you guys ready? 😀

Hello Stranger, We are on Lian He Wan Bao!

Thank you thank you thank you to Wan Bao for featuring us! It is always (and will always be) our honour to get any feature in such publications. It feels almost like an affirmation from your boss. We are so gonna frame it up and let this article be hung up on our wall of glory. Ha.

Just saying, actually most articles are still lying on my desk. I better get down to laminating them up.

This is indeed a great encouragement for us to conduct our 1st session of briefing tonight. Are you going to be there? 😀

Time: 745pm

Venue: YMCA Studio 9

Bubbling up with love again,

Hello Strangers, Its Always Good to Dream

Happy happy Monday!

Here’s a video of what fellow Singaporeans and Team Project Hello Stranger dream of our little red dot. We dream big for our country and we know it is definitely possible. Do you have dreams for Singapore too? Something less materialistic and economical, something less tangible and financially driven? Have you thought about how it would be like to have a country where you feel a great sense of belonging to? A place where strangers are not weird beings who lead their own lives but a place where strangers get to say hi or drop a compliment to each other anytime anywhere?

Just some food for thought this first weekend of June.

Have you thought why is it possible overseas but why isnt it so in Singapore? Huge countries out there can manage such an open friendly culture, why cant we? Is it that hard for us to be a little warmer?

Okay, glooms aside. *pushes dark clouds away* We hope we can achieve this dream one day. It has been a veryveryVERY (cant emphasize more!) enjoyable road for us and we want you to enjoy bashing through this road with us too! Lets set milestones in Singapore’s culture together! Take part in our 23 June event!

No wait, you have not signed up? Here, click this link and start your journey with us. 🙂

Lets keep our hearts aligned and envision the home we want to live in,

Team Project Hello Stranger

Hello Stranger, Thanks for the meet ups!

Trust us when we say this, we never knew there will be so many strangers out there in full support of our cause. In our tiniest minds, we never expected people coming up to us, sharing ideas and brainstorming magic with us. We are truly truly grateful for the opportunities bestowed upon us.

Meet up with Choa Chu Kang ITE students:

These students were crazy enthu. Ha. We love it like that. They were so filled with energy despite being in school till so late (our bad, one of us had to do a little overtime at work). They have big plans and were keen on exploring ideas with us. We got so much to learn from them. Their unity, their curiosity, their keenness to impact their schoolmates’ lives! How many of us really cared to make a difference in our schools. Lots to learn from them!

Meet up with Yu Huan from Social Innovation Park:

This lady here is an inspiration. Firstly, she walked to her meetings all around town under the hot sun. Ha! We learnt alot more about Social Innovation Park (http://www.socialinnovationpark.org/) from her and its awesome knowing the cool stuff they do. Go read up about them!

Hello Stranger has really taught us so much. Taught us to be unselfish. Taught us that through sharing, alot more can be achieved.

Meet ups always welcomed- we LOVE coffee chats,

Team Project Hello Stranger

Hello Strangers, Step Right Up!

This will be our maiden voyage.

And we want you to be with us!

Date: 23 June 2012

Time: 2-8pm

Place: The hippest place in Singapore, Orchard Road

On the day of the event, ambassadors of Project Hello Stranger will give out lots and lots of brightly coloured balloons with a simple instruction saying “Make a friend today, Pass this on to a stranger!” One stranger gets a balloon and then pass it on to another stranger and another and another! Its almost like that childhood birthday party game of Pass the Parcel, only this time round, there will not be a stop to the music, there will not be any sabotages, it is all going to be friendly and real.

Besides that, sashaying up and down the Orchard runway will be more ambassadors holding up “Hello Stranger!” signs, smiling and bringing cheer to every shopper they see. Hello Stranger cards will be given out, the public’s curiosity will be fed, they will know what exactly is going on.

You will see balloons passing on from stranger to stranger, you will see smiles, you will see new friendships formed, you will see the difference you can make.

We are looking into sparking off the change in Singapore. We want Hello Stranger to be a new culture, to be a reminder to all Singaporeans that its time we all shed that cold front and break into genuine kind gestures. Lets be who we really are inside- warm, fuzzy and eager to befriend a stranger. 🙂

Spend that special Saturday with us making a difference we want to see in our community! 🙂 It may not be easy planning something so huge, but Team Project Hello Stranger will hang in there and plan the event to its bestest of our abilities!

Working hard like ants and bees and cockroaches (they never die!),

Team Project Hello Stranger

Hello Stranger had a blast at HeyHiHello Strangers!

Never in our wildest imagination did we think we can end up here one day. 60+ sign ups from people who believe in our cause, who see the power of the community, who know that they can make a difference in Singapore’s culture, who want to be that change. We really wanna thank all of you who took that dive down the bottomless valley to join us, we sincerely hope you guys had fun and feel empowered as an individual. We really can be that change that we want to see in our society!

Now that you guys are like ambassadors for Project Hello Stranger. We hope you grab hold of the project like your baby. Smile with us when it progresses and frown with us when things happen and most importantly, share with your friends what we all envision Singapore to be. That happy little island where hellos are exchanged so commonly.

So yes!! We had so much fun on Friday! We had so much fun that alot of us couldnt fall asleep when we got home, the heart was still thumping with so much enthusiasm. It all started from the moment people started streaming into NVPC, alot of us got extremely anxious and awkward. We had to really push ourselves to start interacting with strangers and helping everyone feel comfortable. It was really amazing how gradually, people starting opening up and when you guys started laughing genuinely, it made us feel so encouraged, especially at the end of the day when we started sharing chips and drinks, it became so clear that we are starting to become friends!

Now how cool is that. 😀 WE SAY ITS WAY TOO COOL AND OUT OF THIS WORLD!! *Throws yellow balloons in the air*

Age didnt matter. Backgrounds didnt matter. Even names didnt matter. Ha! We huddled and took that family portrait. Now for those who came, did you imagine you will randomly be a part of a gathering where you dont know majority of the people but ended up playing catching or giving high 5s or sharing chips with? Sweet.

Thank you for trusting us and believing we are not a scam. Thank you for spending a good few hours of your Friday night with us (we know how precious Friday nights are!) Thank you for bringing those chips, chewy juniors, sparkling wine, popcorn, kuay, etc to share. Thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone and entering this zone of uncertainty with us. Thank you for nodding and smiling when we were sharing about the project. Thank you for dropping us sweet notes during and after the event. Thank you for laughing right from your heart. Thank you.

For those who wanted to join us on Friday but couldnt, no worries! We still have you in mind and we still welcome you with open arms to be a part of us. 🙂 And if you dropped by but felt that this is probably not what you believe in, nah, dont worry about it! We hope you had some good old school fun too!

And now, we got to rock and roll!! Time to take Project Hello Stranger into our bare hands and let it level up! Lets infect this red dot with openness! 🙂

Recharged with 100% battery life and ready to paint the town yellow,

Team Project Hello Stranger

Hello Strangers, Jitters Jitters Excitement

Say what! 1.5 hours more to a celebration!

We are human beings too and we get nervous as well. Butterflies in our rumbling tummies. Are our tummies rumbling because its going to be dinner time or is it cause of the dreadful nerves? Who are we going to meet? Will you guys find us weird? What should we say? Will plans go smoothly? Please oh please, say you like us and you believe in our cause.

So if you are nervous, lets talk about it later. Maybe we can calm each other down. 🙂

That aside, we are really enthused about sharing about us and learning about you. We always believe magic happens when strangers meet. Lets all look forward to that spark, that new friendship that awaits tonight. Quoting American band, Fun, “Tonight, we are young. So lets set the world on fire, we can go brighter than the Sun.”

See you there in a bit.
